La NBA ouvre davantage ses portes aux étrangers. C’était un souhait de David Stern pour que la vitrine s'agrandisse. En 2007, l'Allemand Dirk Nowitzki est élu MVP de la saison avant que le Français Tony Parker ne soit élu MVP des Finales un mois plus tard.
